REFERRAL

A request for help from someone in need of assessment - could be a self- referral or via third party such as personal adviser, social worker, health visitor etc.

REGISTER OF DISABLED CHILDREN

Under the Children Act 1989 (Schedule 2), all local authorities have to keep a register of local disabled children. This is to help the local authority plan services more effectively. Registration is not compulsory and failure to register does not affect a child’s right to services.

RESIDENCE ORDER

Residence orders are made under section 8 of the Children Act 1989 and stipulate who a child is to live with. An order normally lasts until the child reaches age 16 unless the court decides that there are exceptional circumstances which justify it lasting longer.
