Housing and Disabled People

If you have a disability you may have special housing requirements that help make life easier. You may also be entitled to extra financial help to enable you to live independently. There are several organisations that work to ensure that your needs are met.

The Disabled Living Foundation provides equipment, advice and information. Visit their site opposite or call their helpline on 0845 130 9177 for more information.

Transition Information Network produces a website with information on benefits and allowances for people with disabilities, specifically aimed at young people making decisions at 16+.

Contact the housing department at your local Council to find out what modifications you are entitled to and to apply for them to be installed. Your local Social Services department should also be able to let you know if you are eligible for extra assistance. The telephone numbers for the housing departments and Social Services are all listed in the Homelessness pages of this site.
